8 Reasons Why Indiana Jones 5 Is (Probably) A Brilliant Idea

1. The Same Immediate Backlash Happened With Star Wars

In keeping with anything that doesn't religiously follow "the plan", the online reaction to Indiana Jones 5 hasn't been all that positive so far, with the pervasive feeling being a mixture of annoyance and exhaustion. Harrison Ford is too old and passive to reprise his iconic role, while the whole thing only exists because Disney want to make more money. Besides, who wants another one after George Lucas ran the franchise into the ground with the last one?

See where I'm going with this? Ignoring that I've already pointed out why those aren't really valid points, these are the exact same criticisms that were trotted out when Star Wars Episode VII was announced. And we all know how that turned out. Although it's hard to remember after the massive outpouring of joy towards The Force Awakens, when Disney first floated the idea of more Star Wars movies the fan response was (once the initial shock had worn off) one of extreme caution bordering on all-out worry.

Of course you couldn't blame that reaction then and you can't begrudge people feeling like that now, but before you start posting a bunch of jokey fake titles on Twitter and lamenting how we don't need a geri-action Henry Jones, Jr., take pause and consider that, when looking at the bigger picture, Indiana Jones 5 is in the best possible hands.

It'll probably be great. And if not, it can't be as bad as the last one.
