8 Recent Box Office Bombs That Could Still Get Sequels

6. Pacific Rim: Uprising

Star Wars Solo
Universal

Budget: $150 million

Box Office: $290,930,148

This sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's 2013 original, Pacific Rim Uprising came up short financially and critically although dreams of a sequel are not that farfetched. Del Toro's original also performed poorly at the box office earning just over $400 million on a $200 million budget and if it happened once it can happen again.

Before Uprising's release director Steven S. DeKnight discussed plans for a third film that would open the world of Pacific Rim up to a universe of potential sequels which shows that the idea for a Pacific Rim 3 is there, although a third film is dependent on the willingness or production company Legendary Pictures to make another Pacific Rim film that may once again struggle at the box office.

An alternate route to a direct sequel to Uprising would be combining the Pacific Rim franchise with that of Legendary's Monsterverse, as the prospect of Godzilla or Kong fighting Jaegars would surely give a boost to another Pacific Rim film at the box office.

Elliot Pedley hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
