3. Jack Reacher
Christopher McQuarries first directorial stint in twelve years is an adaptation of Lee Childs immensely popular Jack Reacher novels. Arguably the first step wrong was choosing One Shot a story from the middle of the series, meaning the film will need to set up the character in a way the book didn't. Probably worse than that was, after a lengthy production, changing the title from something captivating to the main characters name; a name that only means something to fans of the books. The film wont be out for a few months, so we don't know what the box office reaction will be, but its fair to say the name change can only hurt its chances. Tom Cruise isnt as bankable as he once was and the film could easily come across as an Ethan Hawke rip off. All in all, its an attempt at simplification where it wasnt required. Imagine Dr No being called James Bond.
