8 Scariest Twist Movie Endings That Will Keep You Up At Night

6. The Borderlands

The Mist Ending
Metrodome

Set in the already creepy enough Devon countryside, The Borderlands milks the scary set up for all its worth; featuring three men sent to investigate reports of supernatural events in an old rickety church. Filmed in first person as a found footage tape, the movie slowly burns through objects inexplicably moving and strange noises emanating from under the building, before jumping right in with the local Priest committing suicide and an exorcism taking place.

Whilst many found footage films can be considered formulaic, The Borderlands breaks away from the norm with its batsh*t ending - revealing that the church was actually built on an old Pagan temple and the previous minister had converted his worship to the old Gods. By exploring a tight passageway underground, the investigators suddenly end up in the middle of what can only be assumed to be a stomach - and are painfully digested as the film draws to a close.

What in the living hell is this? Watching people get melted down for an unknowable demonic entity after accidentally crawling into its guts is not how you expect this movie to end, and it's really pretty horrible to imagine: never mind watch. The Borderlands cleverly never reveals exactly what's happened to seal the men's fate, and just in the way that religion itself is an unknowable quantity, so is their investigation.
