8 Scenes That Would Have Ruined The Original Star Wars Trilogy
3. "It's A Trick!" - Return Of The Jedi
"It's a trick"? Surely the immortal line goes "It's a trap!", right? Well, believe it or not, but it didn't read that way originally. Early drafts of Return of the Jedi had Admiral Ackbar's classic dialogue cue penned in as the far less hilarious "It's a trick!", which you'll no doubt agree has none of the intended oomph. Now, we know what you're thinking: it's easy to say that "It's a trick!" is worse than "It's a trap!" because it's not as famous and because it's not the line we all know and love. Had George Lucas just gone for "It's a trick!" we'd be none the wiser, right? It would have ended up being just as famous coming from the mouth of our fishy friend regardless? Perhaps not, actually. Lucas actually changed the line from "It's a trick!" to everybody's favourite trap-based cue after a test audience responded badly to it. Why anyone would have such an adverse reaction to such an arbitrary line is anybody's guess, but presumably there was a certain hatred towards the word "trick" back in the early 80's. Had Lucas not bothered, though, we'd have lost out on one of the best and most absurd Star Wars moments in the entire trilogy. Everyone loves "It's a trap!" Everyone.
