8 Sci-Fi Movie Remakes You Didn't Know Were In The Works

People may not be aware that Will Smith's I Am Legend was the third adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel (1964's The Last Man on Earth and 1971's The Omega Man came first) making this next remake, should it ever come to fruition, the fourth adaptation of the same story. Crazy.

The Big Willy version follows Robert Neville, 'the last man on Earth', who lives a solitary existence while desperately attempting to create a cure for a virus that has wiped out most of mankind.

In 2014, Deadline reported that another remake was in development, after Will Smith refused to return to play his character in a prequel. But rather than basing this new iteration of the story solely on the novel, Warner Bros are retrofitting a spec script called A Garden At The End Of The World, to make it fit the I Am Legend brand.

So... what exactly will it be about? Who knows. The title of the spec script does at least indicate that this remake will take place in an apocalyptic version of Earth, but beyond that, it's impossible to guess what similarities this remake will have with the Will Smith movie, or the 1954 novel.

Still, we can only assume that the remake is chugging along, albeit a little slowly. Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter, Roy Lee and Joby Harold are onboard to produce, and given the monumental amount of cash I Am Legend raked in, it can't be too long before the movie starts gaining more traction.
