Sure, maybe we can't yet summon a devastating thunderstorm at will, but it appears that mankind will not be satisfied until it has brought every aspect of the planet under control, including the weather.

During the Vietnam War, there was a top secret research program called Operation Popeye with the goal of modifying the weather. Their aim was to extend the monsoon season over the Ho Chi Minh trail in the hopes of impeding the enemy. There is also a luxury wedding company that claims to be able to guarantee good weather on your wedding day through the use of cloud seeding - although the legitimacy ft hat one is a little questionable.

Many other techniques for controlling the weather, particularly in regards to reducing the risks of hurricanes, have been put forwards, such as: Pouring liquid nitrogen onto the sea, using lasers to discharge lightning in storms and mastering atmospheric pressure to prevent large weather fronts building up.
