The movies depict the zombie apocalypse as a simple kill-or-be-killed scenario, but it's actually fraught with ethical dilemmas.

Given what we've discussed about the mental capacities of zombies, we have to question whether it is acceptable to kill something capable of some conscious thought. Sure, they're capable of killing you, but then again so are many big predators and yet we actively protect many of them.

Given that zombies, like these predators, are simply following their natural instincts you could argue that it's not really their fault and that we, as the superior intellect, have a duty of care.

You also have to question when it is acceptable to kill somebody with the potential to turn into zombie. Do you kill them before they turn - at which point you are actually killing a human - are do you wait for them to turn, potentially endangering other lives?

Or you could just stove their skulls in with a shovel and hang the ethics.
