8 Signs We're Reaching Saturation Point With Superhero Movies

6. Franchise Spin-Offs And Movies Planned To 2028...

It's a testament to the success of the cinematic Marvel universe that head honcho Kevin Feige has already announced that he has 14 years of superhero stories in development. No other franchise would ever be so quite so bold, though in a similar Disney-owned fashion, we already have five Star Wars films planned for the rest of the decade. The appetite for super heroes never before translated from comic to screen is immense. From Black Panther to Captain Marvel, audiences are finally getting exposed to characters that aren't called Spider-Man, the Hulk or DC's Batman and Superman. Would Guardians of the Galaxy, featuring a walking, talking tree, have been made a decade ago? Most likely not. But the idea of 14 years of Marvel films can be overwhelming too. Will our love affair with superheroes still be as strong a decade from now? Or will audiences finally have had enough, leaving only the hard-core comic fans queuing to see their favourite characters on the big screen? It isn't just Marvel that seems determined to flood us with every superhero under the sun. Despite their more limited repertoire, Sony have announced Sinister Six and Venom spin offs. They're exciting prospects. The uniqueness of X Men aside, we've only seen what one proper superhero team up movie can do. A film featuring a host of villains? From a narrative point of view how would that even work? Suddenly one sequel isn't enough anymore. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is apparently just the tip of the iceberg.
