8 Signs We're Reaching Saturation Point With Superhero Movies
5. Announcing Sequels Before the First Film Has Been Released
At least Marvel have a number of successful films under their belt to boast a boatload more for many years to come. What about when the first film in a franchise hasn't even been released? Case in point; the Fantastic Four reboot. Josh Trank's latest retelling of Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch and The Thing is scheduled for the already packed 2015. Boasting a far more interesting cast and hopefully a decent version of iconic villain Doctor Doom, it has to be better than the last two attempts to bring these superheroes to the screen. Apparently Twentieth Century Fox have faith it will be. They already have the sequel scheduled in for two years later. Now, this new Fantastic Four may be everything we hoped it will be, but isn't it a bit presumptuous to schedule in a sequel before audiences have had a chance to decide for themselves? After all, The Amazing Spider-Man, a better film ultimately than Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man, held off announcing the sequel until the first one had hit cinemas. Is this another case of flooding us with more superhero films whether we want them or not? Then again, well always get some sequels to dire films. Just look at Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance...
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
