8 Smartest Decisions Made By Saw Characters

3. Strahm's Tracheotomy (Saw V)

While most traps in the Saw series have some clear way to escape them (usually a painful way, but still, it's better than nothing) the trap that Peter Strahm finds himself in at the start of Saw V is the exact opposite.

Left alone in a room with a cube-shaped box around his head, Strahm is forced to watch as his miniature prison slowly fills up with water. He has no phone, no keys, and no weapons of any kind. It's a pretty dire situation.

This feeling of helplessness is amplified when the box is completely filled with water, and Strahm starts to drown. With no way out, it looks like he's done for, but at the very last second, he finds a pen in his pocket and rams it into his throat, giving himself a tube through which he can breathe.

It's a moment of pure genius, especially considering how little time Strahm had to work out a plan. Pretty bloody lucky he had that pen on him, too!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
