8 Sneaky Ways A Movie Got Greenlit

3. Alien 5 Was Greenlit Based On Instagram Fan Art

Pitching a movie must be easier than it looks, as all Neill Blomkamp had to do to make his dream project is post some fan art on Instagram account and then sit back and wait for the studio to call. His artwork for a potential Alien 5 featured Ripley and an acid scarred Hicks €“ both of whom are notable for being alive when they should be dead €“ teaming up to stop another alien based threat. Various websites and fans got all hot and bothered by the images, as nobody wanted Ripley's last movie to be Alien: Resurrection. Following the good buzz Fox gave the go ahead to Blomkamp€™s version, with both Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn expressing interest in returning. Blomkamp also confirmed plans that the film would ignore the events of Alien 3 and Resurrection, an idea that split the fanbase right down the middle. Nobody was upset that it was going to ignore the Alien Vs. Predator movies though. Despite excitement the movie is on hold for now so Ridley Scott can work on Alien: Covenant next. Hopefully for Blomkamp that initial fan excitement will stay with the project; otherwise he'd better release some new artwork around the time of Covenant's release.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
