X-Men Origins: Wolverine focused more energy on setting up more spin-offs than telling an actual story, with Deadpool, Gambit and the young X-Men being paraded in front of the audience like a big test marketing exercise. Deadpool had the most potential out of them all. Ryan Reynolds was the perfect fit for the snarky mercenary, yet somehow Fox managed to mess that up, sewing his mouth shut and turning him a Frankenstein monster with sword arms. The fans hated him, the audience hated him and development on a solo movie chugged along fruitlessly for years. Even when the films director and Reynolds shot some test footage to show Fox their vision, they remained unmoved. What saved the project was that somehow - the footage leaked and went ultra viral; it was fun, violent and captured the tone of the comic perfectly. After a few solid months of positive feedback Fox finally got out their chequebook and they're so stoked about it they've already announced a sequel. All because of a little, accidental leak.
