6. Another Antagonist Arises In The Background As The B-Plot
Movies change antagonists all the time. In
The Dark Knight, Batman was originally too concerned about taking down the mob to tackle the Joker while he was only a small threat. It is only later in the movie that the Joke becomes the main antagonist as he holds the entire city of Gotham hostage. After breaking into the second act, Snyder says that this is the best time to start setting up the b-plot that will eventually merge with the a-plot (Batman fighting Superman) at the climax. This would naturally be the second, or rather, the
real villain. The most important part of this character is that he/she does have to be big enough to take on both the Dark Knight and our Man of Steel, though. There are a few individuals and groups that were foreshadowed in
Man of Steel. We saw tons of Lex Luthor easter eggs, and
a brief one to Tony Gallo, who according to the first arc of 2007's
Superman Confidential brought kryptonite to Superman for the first time. We have also already met S.T.A.R. labs, who could provide some conflict for Superman as well.
