Hot Fuzz is positively brimming with surprise cameos, with two of the best remaining uncredited; Peter Jacksons appearance as a stabby Santa Claus and Cate Blanchett playing Nic Angels ex-girlfriend Janine. She spends her entire scene wrapped in crime scene grab, though Blanchetts distinct eyes make her a dead giveaway. Even behind a mask, Blanchett brings a lot of emotion to the role, which sways from funny one second to emotional the next. Theres a real feeling of sadness and regret that Pegg and Blanchett both bring to it, and though its only a small scene it does wonders establishing Angels closed off personality. It also shows Blanchetts skill that shes able to play a fully fleshed out role with only a few seconds screentime, which her eyes doing most of the talking.
