Michael Fassbender could do a three-hour epic about a man clearing out his sock drawer and still find a way to make it compelling, so he easily rose to the challenge of playing the troubled lead singer of an experimental band in Frank, who wears a paper mache head for a good 95% of his screentime. Fassbender uses the expressive face to his advantage, milking comedy from it while also somehow able to make it seem like the head changes expression based on his mood. The film is able to switch between comedy and drama seamlessly and while the movie has a great supporting cast, its Fassbenders Frank who really draws the viewer in. He's funny, exciting and tragic all at once. Across his career the actor has been able to demonstrate a wide range as a performer, but being able to bring such an expressive turn to a character whos face with don't see until the end has to be one of his biggest accomplishments.
