8 Terrifying Horror Comics That Should Be Made Into Movies

2. The Wilds

This one goes out to all the Zed-heads out there.

The Wilds is based on a plague that rapidly spreads through the US, and the survivors are forced to set up communities in order to survive the end of the world. Daisy quickly establishes herself as an unrivalled 'runner' for her effectiveness in transporting supplies and survivors, as well as scavenging the ruins of the old world. A decade into the apocalypse and her lover, Heather, disappears whilst out on a run, and Daisy departs the safety of her community to find her.

Clearly inspired by NaughtyDog's multi-award-winning video game The Last of Us, the 'Abominations' that inhabit the world take on a far more natural look than many other stereotypical zombies, with wild flowers and plants sprouting from the skin of the infected. Emily Pearson's illustrations, whilst simple, create a dark-yet-beautiful vibe around every sighting of the infected.

By no means is this an original premise - in fact there is a strong argument to be made that we have all seen this before - The Wilds avoids becoming stale through the 'Abominations' advancing with the plot. They slowly begin to act with more intelligence, setting traps and taking survivors instead of just killing them. With the zombie genre a dying breed, could The Wilds be the story to breathe new life into these rotting lungs?
