8 Things Avengers: Infinity War Did Better Than Captain America: Civil War

7. Most Characters Get Their Time To Shine

Before Infinity War, Civil War was undoubtedly the most ambitious Marvel film ever made. To juggle so many heroes and to pit them against each other was incredible, but there are a few characters that get lost in the confusion. The same could of course be said about Infinity War, with Captain America, Black Widow and Black Panther all falling way behind in terms of screen-time, but all their roles are clear; they're the soldiers of this fight, and while it might be slightly presumptive to argue that Avengers 4 will address this imbalance, it is true that Infinity War is part one of a much larger story, irrespective of Avengers 4's titling issues.

With Civil War, each character's role is slightly less defined. Hawkeye returns after Age of Ultron's resolution and is actually one of the better-written characters in the film, but apart from his argument with Tony on the Raft and an eye-catching throwback to an earlier comic when he fires Ant-Man at Iron Man, he isn't given sufficient time to develop. Clint just seems as though he's along for the ride in that respect, and while he's more of the Barton we wanted to see before he was brainwashed in 2012's Avengers, his motivations are barely given even the most cursory of glances.

Irrelevant, perhaps, given the fact he doesn't even feature in Infinity War. But he isn't the only character who suffers from Civil War's chaos. Fellow ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Nat Romanoff also seems to get lost in the action, and while deception and obfuscation are kind of her specialties, her rationale could've been made more explicit.

Infinity War just benefits from a perceptible threat in that sense, and while some characters are left behind, fans can rest assured that they'll recover in the follow-up.
