8 Things Avengers: Infinity War Did Better Than Captain America: Civil War
6. It Adapts A More Compelling Premise
Once the novelty of seeing your favourite heroes collide wears off, it becomes instantly apparent that having them fight just isn't all that compelling. In some respects it's actually quite facile, and while Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely's script elevates the source-material of the comics superbly, adding nuance to a once rudimentary premise, it is frustrating to see these allies resort to knocking ten lumps out of the other when there are other, more pressing matters at hand.
Personal preference though this may be, there's no ignoring that, in the comics at least, Civil War sparked a resurgence of hero versus hero storylines that lacked neither the intent nor the intrigue of the third Captain America feature. Civil War has genuine conflict, and it's compelling in a whole host of respects, but nothing can beat seeing the Avengers come together to tackle a given threat - a theme Infinity War understands and sets about introducing right from the story's opening moments.
Again, it must be reiterated that Civil War elevates the source material of the Mark Millar-Steve McNiven comic more than it probably should, but there's no hiding the disappointment of seeing these friends turn on each other. In the film's case it at least makes sense, with neither Tony nor Steve thinking rationally about the topic at hand, but everyone would much rather see them together taking on someone else.
