8 Things That Almost Happened In Indiana Jones Movies

4. Indy Has A Daughter Instead Of A Son

Frank Darabont's script for the fourth Indy film may as well have been called Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Good Version, but its official title was The City of the Gods.

Many elements from The Shawshank Redemption director's story ended up in the final movie, but it would have been an entirely different film had they adapted this version.

For starters, there was no Mutt Williams, which already makes it superior. In an early draft, he was replaced by a 13-year old daughter that Indy had fathered with Marion, though Spielberg is said to have put the kibosh on this idea because he'd recently tried something similar in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

The titular skull, those aliens and Marion's return all originate from Darabont's script (which has leaked online), although the extraterrestrials were introduced in a far less clunky way, and the story as a whole is widely regarded as superior.

Given that Mutt Williams will absolutely not be returning for Indiana Jones 5, would Spielberg consider resurrecting the daughter idea instead? It's unlikely considering he poured cold water over it the first time, and has surely learned the hard way that nobody wants to see Indy playing dad.
