8 Things We Want From Halloween Kills
4. A Purpose For Returning Legacy Characters
One of the first things the public learned about Halloween Kills in 2019 was that it would contain "many" returning characters from John Carpenter's 1978 film.
As the film cycled through production, press releases confirmed the return of characters Tommy Doyle, Lindsey Wallace, former sheriff Leigh Brackett, Marion Chambers and school bully Lonnie Elam.
Three of these franchise legacy characters would be portrayed by their original actors, while Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Longstreet would take over the parts of Doyle and Elam. The announcements and castings were initially greeted with great fanfare and hysteria from the horror community, but with the passage of time, one worry has continually cropped up.
Franchise devotees worry that all of this is just fan service, that these returning stars may have no real purpose or character arc. While seeing familiar faces may initially please Halloween die-hard fans, the lack of a substantial role risks losing general audience members that might fail to connect with the characters.
With all that said, David Gordon Green has more than demonstrated his love and devotion to Halloween. As a fan himself, there is little doubt he knows the place these characters hold in the hearts of many. There is a great hope despite the concerns that Green has provided substantial, meaty parts for some franchise favorites and some incredible actors.
