8 Things You Definitely Won't See In Marvel's Phase 3

5. Spider-Man Unmasked

As downright amazing and spectacular as it is that Spider-Man is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 3, there are a lot of ways in which his role in this world could prove to be a major let down. The biggest is no doubt in relation to his appearance in Captain America: Civil War next year. Regardless of whether it's a cameo or a full on leading role, the movie simply can't do his part in the comic book justice. Now, Captain America: Civil War admittedly isn't a straight up adaptation, but there are a lot of key moments from Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's critically acclaimed event series that fans are hoping and expecting to see on the big screen next year. Spider-Man had a key role in Civil War, originally fighting for Iron Man and later switching sides. When he did decide to defect, Tony Stark sent the Thunderbolts after him, and Peter Parker was very nearly killed in the sewer tunnels beneath New York before The Punisher stepped in and saved his life. Oh, and before that defection went down, he also revealed his secret identity to the world. So, right about now, you're probably really psyched to see Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, right? Well, none of what I've mentioned above can possibly make it into the movie. For starters, secret identities aren't going to factor into the story, so there goes the chance to adapt one of the biggest moments in the wall-crawler's history! Had Marvel had some time to establish Spider-Man in this world, his role here could have been a real game changer; instead, as great as it will no doubt still be, it's never going to be able to live up to expectations.
