8 Times Actors Embarrassingly Campaigned For A Huge Movie Role

6. Thomas Jane - Jonah Hex

Thomas Jane already played a badass action hero in the 2004 take on The Punisher, but sadly the film around him was a bit of a shambles. Jane is something of a comics lover in real-life, so when The Punisher sequel fell through he badly wanted the role of Jonah Hex when Warner Bros. announced it. He called up a make-up artist friend to do a little demonstration of what he’d look like in the role, and posted it to the studio.

That’s all fine and dandy, and there are probably a lot of actors who do the same thing. The interesting thing is that the photos of him somehow leaked online, and while some fans appeared keen on the idea the response was still muted, and Josh Brolin was eventually cast. Jane himself has said he’s a little embarrassed his inner fanboy was exposed for the world to see, but it ended up scoring him the role of Hex for a DC animated short.

Which – irony of ironies – ended up being much better received than the actual movie was.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
