8 Times Movie Studios Went Too Far
4. Forcing Amy Schumer To Lose Weight For Her Own Movie
As one of the best comedians in the game, Amy Schumer found herself inundated with movie offers once her name value started to rise. With Universal Pictures picking up the option for an untitled Schumer film script, the actress was set to lead the charge as the headline act of her own picture.
The only thing is, this all came with one very unusual caveat: Schumer had to lose weight.
Yes, even though the idea for the film was hers, even though she'd earned her reputation by simply being her, Schumer was very clearly told that she would need to drop some weight if she were to star in what would become 2015's Trainwreck.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show a couple of years ago, Schumer bluntly revealed:
"It was explained to me before I did that movie that if you weigh over 140 pounds as a woman in Hollywood, if you're on the screen it will hurt people's eyes. So I lost some weight to do that, but never again."
You wrote the movie? Great. We want you to star in the movie? Fantastic. But first, how 'bout losing a few pounds?
Situations like this are unfortunately commonplace across the industry, with so many actors - both male and female - having been forced to alter their appearance by studios.
