8 Upcoming Comic Book Movies You Should Be Concerned About

1. Cyborg

When you look down the upcoming DC slate in its entirety, the one movie that stands out like a sore thumb is the Cyborg standalone. It's pretty ballsy of Warner Bros to schedule a movie for an unknown character when their cinematic universe is all-but crumbling around them, and that's just one of the issues that could result in Cyborg being a disappointment.

Chief among said issues is the choice of actor for the lead role, newcomer Ray Fisher. Outside Batman v Superman, he doesn't have a single feature-film credit to his name and relying on him to sell an obscure character to a mainstream audience is optimistic, at best. It's the equivalent of taking a talented lower-league footballer and dropping them in the Premiership; Fisher's done plenty of theatre work, but this is a completely different game.

Add to that the character's hokey, cheesy unveiling in BvS, and the Cyborg standalone is essentially relying on the quality of the forthcoming Justice League movie. If Cyborg's role in that movie doesn't jive with the fans, you can fully expect for his solo adventure to be quietly abandoned.

And given the DCEU's apparent inability to do anything that pleases the fans, let's not set those expectations too high.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
