8 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Steal IT's Box-Office Crown

2. Glass

Glass will be the third entry in what has to be the most unexpected movie trilogy of all time, following on from 2000's Unbreakable and this year's Split. The former has earned a cult following over the years but Split exploded into mainstream territory, dominating the box-office for weeks after its release.

The popularity of both movies all-but guarantees that Glass will be a financial success, and like Split, it's being launched in January, where it has basically no major competition. In terms of horror-thriller movies, the closest release is Bride Of Frankenstein on 14 February, but based on the middling success of Universal's Dark Universe so far, it's hard to see that landing with a bang.

A quiet release window and no notable competitors aren't the only factors that will drive Glass to success, either.

Fans loved James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy in Split and they're both returning for the sequel, and two other people are also returning to play beloved characters - they would be Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, two of the most popular movie stars on the planet.

Like all the films on this list, Glass will have to be very good and very warmly received in order to come close to matching It's money-making prowess, but at this point, it has literally everything going for it.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
