8 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are Doomed To Fail

6. Men In Black 4

Part sequel and part reboot, Men In Black 4 is being likened to Jurassic World - a continuation of the series that expands the universe, but one that isn't bound by the same storylines and characters of movies prior.

Hence, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are out, and Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are in. Furious 8's F. Gary Gray is set to direct, and with a script from the writers of Iron Man, Men In Black 4 seems to have a lot going for it, right?

But take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Outside the Thor movies, Chris Hemsworth can't sell a damn thing - In The Heart Of The Sea, Vacation, Blackhat, Ghostbusters, The Huntsman: Winter's War, Red Dawn and 12 Strong all flopped and/or received poor reviews.

People went to see Men In Black to watch Will Smith do his Will Smith thing. There's no way Hemsworth can fill that void, because unless he's playing an Asgardian, nobody cares.

Plus, Men In Black 3 was the lowest domestic earner in the series; this is a franchise of diminishing returns, and this, combined with the loss of its main attraction, pretty much spells a death sentence for another entry.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
