8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

2. The Incredibles 2

The Expectation: A story that's set years after the events of the first film.

Why That's Not The Case: The Incredibles 2 is finally happening - more than a decade after the first film, but better late than never - and the length of time it's taken for the sequel to come to fruition did seem to indicate that its story would take place many years after the first film, which would have given us a radically different look at the dynamics between the members of the super-powered family.

That would have been a smart route for the sequel to take. By showing us a version of the family that's five or ten years older, the film would instantly feel different from the first, offering up a perspective that feels fresh.

However, at this year's D23 convention, it was revealed that the film will pick up a minute after the first ended - literally.

This means we'll get to see the family battle the Underminer (a conflict teased at the end of the original, which was actually shown in a video-game sequel, The Incredibles: Rise Of The Underminer), Baby Jack-Jack explore his recently-discovered powers, and discover how society will react to the re-emergence of superheroes.

It will be great to spend some time with The Incredibles again regardless of how the film chooses to deliver its story, but if we do get a third instalment, it would be interesting to see the franchise make a significant time-jump forward.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
