8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

1. Terminator 6

The Incredibles
Paramount Pictures

The Expectation: Arnold Schwarzenegger to reprise his role as a Terminator.

Why That's Not The Case: Even though the atrocious Terminator Genisys seemed to have killed off the sci-fi franchise, it's still finding a way to continue.

And, for the first time since Terminator 2 in 1991, things are looking positive. The rights to the Terminator franchise are set to revert back to James Cameron, its creator, within the next year-and-a-half, and rather than leaving them to gather dust, he's looking into creating a brand-new sixth entry.

Recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed he'll be back to star in this new movie, and everyone assumed he'd be playing a Terminator once again, since that's what he usually does when he pops up in the series.

But, apparently, that is not the case at all.

Speaking to TheArnoldFans, Cameron gave a pretty lengthy quote discussing what a potential new Terminator movie could explore, hinting at Arnie's new role in the process...

"Yeah, you got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold?' There has to be a reason. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from - that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from... and that presumably was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved...so stay tuned!

Prequels to popular franchises don't exactly have the best track record, but Terminator is James Cameron's brainchild, and he will treat it with respect.

Plus, it will be infinitely more interesting to see Arnie explore a different character, rather than going through the motions as yet another Terminator model, and at this point, a fresh perspective is exactly what this series needs.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
