8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

7. It's Going To Be Light On Human Interaction - Toy Story 4

Even though we're in a world where there's going to be Ouija 2, a Smurf reboot and an eighth Fast & Furious in the coming years, Toy Story 4 may still be the most pointless sequel on the horizon. The trilogy was tied up competently with Toy Story 3 and since then we've been subjected to a bunch of increasingly shoddy shorts that make another theatrical go around a less-than-enticing prospect. The Pixar name does a great job of instilling some faith in the project, but, even then, they aren't without fault - let's not forget the pile-up that was Cars 2. Based on that mess alone, the idea of more Toy Story just sounds like creative coasting. Although maybe there is something new here. Pixar's President, Jim Morris, has said that Toy Story 4 isn't a straight-up continuation of the original trilogy, with the focus more on toy interplay than their interaction with children. We've already begun to see this in some of those shorts - the toys' place in the human world has become increasingly irrelevant (Toy Story That Time Forgot was basically Woody And Buzz Go Prehistoric) - and maybe not being stuck repeating the plot of the previous films (when it wasn't just being Jurassic Play Pen, That Time Forgot also regurgitated the whole "Toy thinks he's real" schtick) will allow for something a bit more novel. The film will still fit into the wider series narrative, probably set during the toy's time with Bonnie, but its focus will be greatly shifted from what we're used to. Whether that's good or not (probably the latter) remains to be seen.
