8 Upcoming Movies Undergoing Reshoots (And What It Means)
3. The New Mutants
The Reshoots
Fox's final entry into their X-Men franchise was originally shot between July and September of 2017, and by early 2018, the film's April 13, 2018 release date had been pushed back twice to August 2, 2019.
Reports soon emerged that the film was in need of reshoots, and over a year later, they're still yet to happen, with the cast none-the-wiser about when they're going to.
With the film removed from Disney's release slate just this week, fans are yet again wondering when - and if - the initially planned reshoots will actually go ahead.
What They Mean
Well, none of it is good, that's for sure. It was originally reported that the reshoots came about after Fox micro-managed director Josh Boone during principal photography, in an attempt to scale-back his horror-centric vision.
But after Fox cut a horror-infused first trailer which performed well on social media, they changed their minds and granted Boone to opportunity to restore his original vision through reshoots.
With it now getting dangerously close to two years since primary shooting wrapped, it's safe to say the prospect of the reshoots ever actually happening is becoming quite scant.
Between Disney apparently toying with dumping the film on their Hulu streaming service, the cast having clearly moved on from the project and Disney only releasing it out of pure obligation, it's easy to assume the current state of the film is a mess.
With the wave of negative PR likely poisoning its box office prospects and reshoots only piling more costs on top, you can probably expect to see The New Mutants unceremoniously available to stream late this year or early next, probably sans-reshoots.
