8 Upcoming Sequels To Movies That Aren’t Even Out Yet

6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

What do you do when you've got a successful young adult franchise with a finite end? You take the weakest part of the series and expand it into two movies of course. The Hunger Games has gone from teen favourite to mainstream hit, with the movies working for everyone, not just those who've avidly read Suzanne Collins' source novels. It may seem like a genuine surpise story, but that was always the plan. Back before the first movie arrived in all its shaky-cam glory, a trilogy was already planned, with plans subsequently altered to make Mockingjay, the last book in the series, a two parter. An annoying trend in films, splitting a movie in two is a totally financially motivated decision always played as a creative one. Started by Harry Potter and adopted by Twilight and The Hobbit, it not only weakens the source material, artificially fragmenting the narrative, but also means franchises can plough forward with multiple films on the horizon. Will It Be Any Good? Mockingjay is, as we said, the weakest of The Hunger Games books. And while Jennifer Lawrence is a captivating on-screen presence we don't think she'll be able to change that.
