8 Ways The New Batman V Superman Trailer Proves It Will Be 2016's Best Comic Book Movie
8. A Brilliant New Take On Lex Luthor
When Jesse Eisenberg was unexpectedly cast as Lex Luthor, the biggest fear was that he would essentially be repeating his performance as Mark Zuckerberg from The Social Network. Well, while there's no denying that his take on this iconic Superman villain has a little bit of that about him, it quickly becomes apparent in the trailer that he's a lot more eccentric and quite frankly verges on being totally insane. However, he also appears to be trying to come across as at least somewhat likeable during his conversation with Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, and that actually makes him even more frightening, especially when we see a contrast a little later on as he condescends to Lois Lane and rants about unleashing a devil to kill the Man of Steel. This Lex is a complete sociopath, and that's terrifying. Lex has been portrayed a number of ways over the years in the comics, though this is clearly something new, and that's no bad thing. Would the majority of fans been happier with Bryan Cranston playing a copy and paste version of Luthor from the classic comic books? Of course, but what Eisenberg brings to the table is infinitely more exciting and original, and he's actually the highlight of this trailer as a result.
