8 Ways The Simpsons Movie Could Have Turned Out Completely Differently

6. The Live Action Troy McClure Movie

Though he only made it to ten seasons, unctuous, highly prolific low-rent actor Troy McClure - star of such movies as The Erotic Adventures Of Hercules and Revenge Of Abe Lincoln - is one of the best-loved supporting Simpsons characters. Such was the popularity of the character, there was at one stage plans to make a live action Troy McClure movie as the first Simpsons feature. Unfortunately, Phil Hartman, the comedian who voiced McClure and other characters such as lawyer Lionel Hutz, was killed in 1998 during a domestic dispute. It put paid to any future plans for a McClure spin-off movie, and all characters voiced by Hartman on the show were immediately retired. Since then, Groening has admitted that - although no script was ever written - several members of the Simpsons writing staff were behind the idea of a live action McClure movie and intended to assist Hartman in creating it. It's the closest anyone's been to making a live action Simpsons movie to date.
