8 Worst And Most Desperate Movie Publicity Stunts Ever
5. Terrorist Kit In Post - A Belfast Story
A movie dealing with violence in Northern Ireland is always going to be a tricky sell, but the director of A Belfast Story decided the best way to get people talking about it was to send out press kits featuring a balaclava and some nails to make a nail bomb. Classy stuff.
The press kit had the intended effect of getting people talking about A Belfast Story, but mainly about how bad taste it was. The places who received the kit – including Empire magazine – condemned it, and the director eventually apologised, claiming it was supposed to represent the divide in Northern Ireland.
Nobody was buying that load of guff, though, and the movie’s unpleasant attempt to get people talking didn’t do it much good. In the end, it received poor reviews and did weak business.
