7. Escape From New York

There have been MANY false dawns for the long-gestating remake of Escape From New York, which should have indicated to at least someone that it perhaps wasn't a great idea. Still, it's one of the most obvious movie remakes on the entire upcoming slate, so you can probably see why it's been worked on since way back in 2015.

2017 saw the hiring of Robert Rodriguez to direct, with Luther creator Neil Cross completing the script in December, but since then the project seems to have hit the brakes. And that's despite John Carpenter himself apparently signing off on it.

Cross admitted at the time of that last update that he may have some rewriting to do and Rodruiguez has been hard at work on Attila: Battle Angel, so maybe we'll start to hear a little more about it soon? Let's hope so.
