9 Actors Who Played Both Iconic Super Heroes And Villains

8. Idris Elba - Heimdall / Roque

There was a short-lived controversy when Idris Elba was cast to play Heimdall in Thor since the character was white in the comic. He shut them up with his performance – since he’s Idris Elba and automatically awesome – but he always felt tragically underused in the films, and Elba himself has expressed frustration with the role.

Elba was also a major part of the titular team in The Losers, where he also worked with future Marvel alumni’s Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans. Elba played Roque, the second in command of a team of mercenaries, and he brought his trademark cool to the movie; so it really stings when he’s revealed to be a traitor working with the villains.

They should have guessed it with a name like that.

This twist is one of the few memorable things about The Losers, though, and nobody will cite it as Elba’s best work. The actor has yet to find a really juicy role in a comic book movie, but if they ever get around to rebooting Blade maybe he’s the guy to call.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
