9 Actors Who Sacrificed Everything For Terrible Movies

8. Anne Hathaway Makes Herself Sick - Les Miserables (2012)

For her short, Oscar-winning role in Tom Hooper's epic musical, Anne Hathaway portrayed the tragic Fantine and in preparation for the film lost 25 pounds to appear emaciated.

Whilst the preparation certainly paid off for her striking and powerful performance, it's a shame to see the rest of the musical wasn't willing to meet her level.

Les Mis is full of so-so direction, bleak themes with no hope and questionable casting decisions - primarily Russell Crowe, who being one of the film's two main characters is impossible to escape no matter how terrible he is.

Hathaway has since gone on record to say that her weight loss caused her to feel constantly sick, and that it negatively effected her health long after the film was released.

Though she won an Academy Award and stood as one of the picture's major stand-outs, the fact that the rest of the film was so mediocre despite the source material makes you wonder whether it was all worth it.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
