9 Almost-Great Movie Moments Ruined By Shoddy CGI

5. The Destruction Of Metropolis - Man Of Steel

I could have done a whole list on Man Of Steel - for a summer tentpole the CGI was incredibly shoddy. Whereas in 300, Sucker Punch and even Watchmen the use of sub-par CGI was logical stylistically, helping create the tone of the world, here it was shown Zach Snyder just didn't know any better.

Computers did do some good in the film, with Superman's homeworld felt particularly fleshed out. Krypton's destruction didn't look bad and I did appreciate the silver manservant-robot-things, but the film's best CG moment wasn't even meant to look that realistic; it's when Kal gets a retelling of the opening twenty minutes. But anything set on Earth looked a little too odd.

The film was overridden by a greyish hue that made the whole thing look slightly unreal anyway, but when computer generated effects were added into the mix they seemed to lack that grain, looking crisper than the rest of Earth. This was at its worst when we were in the almost entirely CG Metropolis. Ignoring the necksnappingly repetitive action, it was incredibly hard to invest yourself in the climax when no effort had been made to hide everything was happening in a computer.
