9 Awesome Characters Who Had Really Lame Deaths

8. Cyclops - X-Men: The Last Stand

Cyclops X-Men
20th Century Fox

Despite being the leader of the X-Men, poor Cyclops got a raw deal with the movies. Wolverine completely overshadowed him in the original, he disappeared for a large chunk of X-Men 2 and his poor treatment in The Last Stand is legendary.

James Marsden was busy filming Superman Returns during production, which obviously didn’t sit well with Fox since Bryan Singer also left to make it. This probably influenced his abrupt demise, when he returns to Alkali Lake to cry over Jean Grey some more and is pleasantly surprised when she returns to life.

He's not so pleased when she vaporises him of course, which we don’t learn for a good half hour. That’s right, the leader of the X-Men and one of the most important characters in the series is killed off-screen, and not even in a heroic way. Bryan Singer eventually managed to undo that nonsense with Days Of Future Past, but it still stands as one of the most baffling decisions in the series.
