9 Awesome Characters Who Had Really Lame Deaths

7. Johnny Cage - Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

Mortal Kombat 2 Johnny Cage
New Line Cinema

Johnny Cage is the cocky comic relief of the Mortal Kombat series, and he proved to be everyone’s favourite character in the movie version; outside of Scorpion of course. The sequel Annihilation promised great things by introducing a bunch of characters from the game and upping the stakes of the cheesy but fun original.

It was something of a shock that not only does Cage have nothing to do, but he also dies within the first few minutes. He tries to give Shao Khan a flying kick, only for the emperor to quickly subdue him and break his neck to make a point. What should have been a shocking moment is undercut by a few things, like the poor acting, direction and general shoddiness of the scene is shot.

Linden Ashby - who played Cage in the original - wisely decided not to reprise the role for this brief scene. He wasn’t necessarily against the character being killed off, just not in such a lame way.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
