4. Hicks And Newt - Alien 3

There are numerous essays and articles dedicated to how resoundingly stupid it was to kill off Hicks and Newt, and it’s hard to argue with them. After spending the entire finale of Aliens desperately trying to save them and herself, she wakes up in Alien 3 to learn they both died in a crash anyway; major bummer.

Maybe the decision to kill them off made sense to the studio, since Newt's actress Carrie Henn would have aged five years between movies and Ripley had always been a loner, but it robs her of the victory of the second movie and it got rid of two characters audiences had grown to like.

Fans still complain about their deaths to this day, and part of the appeal of Neill Blomkamp’s proposed Alien 5 is that it would undo this mistake. That would also mean ignoring Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, too, which is a neat bonus.
