2. Sarah Connor - Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines

Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines gets a bad rap not because it’s awful, but because it’s a lukewarm retread of T2. It’s basically the same story with minor tweaks, and it lacks the inventive touches James Cameron brought to the franchise.

Linda Hamilton was asked to return, but after reading a draft of the script she realised there was nothing else for Sarah Connor to do, so she declined. The studio wasn’t going to let that get in the way of sweet profit, though, so they just had Sarah die of cancer between movies to explain her absence.

This is a bittersweet ending for one of the most progressive action heroes in cinema, and while the writers didn't have a lot of choices it’s jarring to see her go from saving the world in one movie, to being a coffin full of guns in the next.

They did bring her back for Genisys, though that didn’t work out great for anybody.
