9 Awesome Characters Who Had Really Lame Deaths

1. Captain Kirk - Star Trek: Generations

Killing off an iconic character like Captain Kirk was never going to be easy, but dear god there had to have been a better way. Star Trek: Generations was intended to bridge the gap between the original crew and The Next Generation, so Shatner had to appear to hand the reins over to young buck Patrick Stewart.

A team up behind Kirk and Picard sounds like nerd heaven, yet their partnership is a bit of a lame affair. Their world saving quest involves chasing Malcolm McDowell around some rocks; hardly pulse-pounding stuff. Kirk eventually falls off a rickety bridge, while Picard manages to defeat the villain. Kirk lives long enough to give a dying soliloquy – which is touching to be fair – before croaking.

Kirk deserved a more epic send-off than this low wattage climax, though originally it was even worse. In the first ending he’s shot in the back by McDowall, and when test audiences cried foul they reshot to add the “epic” bridge scene instead. It's not much better, but at least Shatner nails Kirk's final moments.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
