9 Awesome Supporting Characters Who Should Have Their Own Spin-Off
4. Lando Calrissian - The Star Wars Trilogy
The Character: If Han Solo was a cool scoundrel all the boys in the audience wanted to grow up to be, Lando was the smooth ladies man all the men wanted to be right now. This guy literally couldn't get any cooler; sensually brought to life by Billy Dee Williams, he wears a cool cape-thing and blows up the second Death Star by flying into its core then racing the explosion to the surface. So damn cool. A character who followed a similar trajectory to Han in the movies (a bit untrustworthy at first but ultimately a nice guy), not being a main character meant Lando never lost his edge. Why A Spin-Off Would Be Awesome: We've already mentioned that Disney are very keen to get Star Wars spin-offs an established thing, with Godzilla's Gareth Edwards and Chronicle's Josh Trank already attached to non-Episode films, the first of which will hit in 2016. The problem with these movies is the mooted subject matter. Edwards' film is rumoured to be centred on fan-favourite Boba Fett, while the other names commonly dropped are Han Solo and Yoda. If these are what they go with it can't end well; Boba became a lot less badass when the prequels retconned him to be Kiwi, while Han and Yoda are so well remember because we know so little about their past. Lando, on the other hand, is ripe for exploration. His background in the Expanded Universe only made him more interesting and with him absent from Episode VII (although an appearance in new cartoon series Rebels isn't off the cards) a spin-off would be a great way to bring the character back. The only issue is that unless is happens concurrent with the new trilogy, odds are the character would have to be recast and who could do that to Billy Dee?
