9 Awesome Villains For A Guardians Of The Galaxy Sequel

8. Dormammu

Dormammu certainly isn't strongly associated with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but he has certainly clashed with certain versions of the team in the comics and could be used as a surprising villain in the sequel once Doctor Strange is an established character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, the evil Faltine sorcerer observes the Guardians of the Galaxy - adventurers from the 31st century of Earth-691 in that case - travelling to the mainstream era of Earth-616. Curious about them, Dormammu follows them back to their dimension, merges with his counterpart in that particular timeline, doubling his power, and attacks their headquarters, demanding the presence of the Doctor Strange of their time. Strange, who is then called the Ancient One, arrives with his disciple, the alien Krugarr, and battles Dormammu, assisted by the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Galactic Guardians and the cosmic entity the Phoenix Force. Dormammu kills the elderly Strange, and almost overwhelms his other foes, but is defeated when Krugarr summons the spirit of Strange and they channel the combined power of everyone hero present to banish Dormammu to his home dimension. So, imagine a scaled-down version of that scenario. We first get our Doctor Strange movie, where the sorcerer battles a lesser villain like Baron Mordo. Then, the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel occurs and the Guardians head to Earth. Dormammu watches and, sensing they could be a threat to his plans, attacks them, initially warning them to stay out of his way. The team then meet up with Doctor Strange, who informs them that he has knowledge of Dormammu's plans and the team ally with him to defeat flame-headed villain. It would certainly be unexpected, but it could potentially be awesome and could lead to Strange forming the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the Defenders, with a different space-based hero replacing Silver Surfer from the comics.
