9 Beloved Films With Boring Scenes That Everybody Ignores

6. Saving Mr Banks - Flashbacks

Although Frozen showed Disney happily mocking itself ("You can't marry a man you just met"), it was Saving Mr Banks that won the title of 'Least Fussed About Disney's Finely Built Image' for 2013 (it's normally not as hotly contested). The film not only positioned the studio's founder as the adversary of protagonist, but also showed Walt drinking and smoking (well, stubbing out a cigarette). Of course, Tom Hank's turn as Disney wasn't really the focus of the movie; all eyes were on Emma Thompson as Mary Poppins author P. L. Travers and her fight to keep the story's integrity. But all this was punctuated by flashbacks to her past, showing her relationship with well-meaning but struggling father's. Showing the effect Travers' own experiences had on Poppins, these scenes are essential to the explaining why she's fighting so hard for the film to be done her way, which makes it a real shame they're quite dull. The sixties-set bickering pits two great actors against each other and there's playful winks to the audience even those unfamiliar with the original can appreciate. The flashbacks are treated with less reverence and after the first couple can be easily plotted out.
