9 Beloved Films With Boring Scenes That Everybody Ignores
5. Gravity - Aningaaq
Although it was a massive success at the Oscars, raking in seven awards out of ten, including Best Director, Gravity's weakness is highlighted by what it wasn't nominated for. As technically impressive as it was, Gravity was let down by a script that betrayed the B-Movie stylings of the whole thing. Which is fine for the film it was, but not the film masterpiece Warner Bros. pinned its Oscar hopes on. And thus the one scene in the film that doesn't involve any whiz-(silent)bang effects grinds the whole momentum to a halt. After beating a rain of debris, low oxygen, a love of George Clooney, fire and more debris Sandra Bullock's Ryan Stone finally gives in when it turns out NASA have very temperamental fuel gauges. Turning off her oxygen, she slips into Clooney-filled unconsciousness, but not before having a conversation with an Inuit named Aningaaq. It's a nice idea and ties into the global view the film is taking with its imagery, but the dialogue itself is so flat you're just waiting for something else to go wrong. You feel the scene was primarily included so Jonás Cuarón's (co-writer of the film and son of director Alfonso) short film detailing Aningaaq's side of the conversation. Which is equally as pointless.
