9 Bizarre Minor Movie Cameos Made By Massive Actors

5. Bruce Campbell's Three Movie Long In-Joke In Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Films

Sam Raimi's always shown a real sense of nostalgia for his own life, chucking lots of personal things into his movies that only really clued-in fans will be aware of; his 1973 yellow Oldsmobile Delta 88 is in every one of his films and he regularly offers up cameos to brother Ted and, of course, childhood friend and B-Movie legend Bruce Campbell.

Ash aside, the most notable appearances are a run of cameos in all three of Raimi's Spider-Man flicks; as a wrestling announcer, theatre usher and waiter respectively. What's interesting is that, not just in-jokes for fans of The Evil Dead, these cameos actually have some sort of coherent theme; each time Campbell gets in the way of Peter Parker in some way that inadvertently (if unhelpfully) pushed Spidey along on his journey.

This recurrence led to several fan theories after the third cameo that, rather than playing three different people (triplets, perhaps), each time Bruce was the same character, jumping from job to job, perhaps explicitly to keep crossing paths with Peter. The pervasive thinking was that he was Mysterio, subtly messing with Spider-Man (which, I have to admit, would have been pretty awesome). When Spider-Man 4 almost got off the ground, Campbell actually said he had a sizeable role in the movie, meaning that, at the very least, there was a plan for this cameo to get a bit bigger.
