Daredevil got a bad deal from both fans and critics, who bashed the campy tone, the miscasting of key roles and the weak action. It wasn’t until the director’s cut came out on DVD that critical opinion turned around sharply; it's far from perfect, but it has a lot more depth and character development.

It was too late to turn around the response to Daredevil, though; the sequel was eventually canned because Ben Affleck hated the theatrical cut so much. Both Affleck and Colin Farrell have said they regret making it, and the original version is regularly bashed, especially in light of the amazing Netflix series.

The fans who saw the director’s cut still stand up for the poor guy, though, insisting that people should give it a try.
